et je rajoute également un copier coller d’une session irc (en anglais) qui s’est tenu avec les dévs:
Thanks for coming, out of an interest of the game or through curiosity – whatever. Many of you played Speedball 2 in the early Nineties on platforms like Amiga 500 or the Gameboy, but for the few, that don’t know the game at all I want to give a small introduction to what the game actually is about. The original Speedball 2 was released in the year 1991 as an Amiga 500 game. It was one of the most popular games on this platform ever. 17 years later Mike Montgomery from the famous developer The Bitmap Brothers, french developer Kylotonn and publisher Frogster Interactive decided to release a remake. The new Speedball 2 will be released in Q3 2007. Tonight Yann Tambellini, Creative Director from Kylotonn, Mathilde Abgrall, Communication and Marketing Assistant from Kylotonn, and myself Mark Ralea, Product Manager for Speedball 2 are going to answer all your question about our beloved game. Please contact me directly through a query and pose your questions in English. First question:
]DG[1awy: Is linux supported for clients? Will there be a dedicated linux version for better (less laggy) online gaming?
for the moment nothing has been planned for a linux server but we’ll think about it in the coming months after the release
Speedballer17: What are the hardware specifiations for the game?
specifications are not defined yet, but our wish is to make the game available for a lot of people
Grumbledook: whats the situation regarding teams, will the team names be unique?
you can be sure that the game will be playable on every video card which manages pixel shader 2.0 .
for example, here at kylotonn, we test the game on a ATI 9800 pro, with already a good framerate, even if optimization is not finished yet.
about the teams : there will be the 16 original teams from speedball2, and we’ve added 16 other teams. All the 16 original teams have the same names as in the orginal game, and for the 16 new, we’ve created new names
in multiplayer mode, the team name is the pseudo of the player, or the tag of the clan.
Grumbledook: Whats the deal with creating our own custom skins?
we make a difference between creation and customization :
the game allows the player to customize its teams members as he wants, he can select the skins, two different colors, the tag, the font for the player’s number
perhaps we will allow community to create their own skin, it will depend on their wishes
cromix: Are there special graphic effects for Dx10 cards?
directX 10 cards only represent less than 5% of players, that’s why we focus on last directX 9 features as pixel shader 3.0. As we want the game playable by the more players possible, there will be pixel shader 2.0 too .
numerous manufacturers have already asked us to work on directX 10 features, that’s why there will be an update especially for this version just after the release.
Souljah: Will there be a chat function?
of course there will, but note that this fonctionality will be also available on speedball2.com game portal.
cromix: How many players can play against each others online? (2vs2, 3vs3 or even 9vs9?)
online we can play up to 2v2 that’s why clans are possible. We’ve already tested 3v3 but it becomes unplayable, the game becomes a big mess
TheBitmapBrother: will there be a yearly update? Like FIFA 2006,2007,2008?
there will be frequent updates : the game has an autopatcher. Those updates will allow us to add and modify a lot of things in the game. This is why you won’t have to wait one year to obtain an update. Meanwhile, fifa or PES updates are a copy of the reality. Since Speedball will not be played by real human players, it will be difficult for us to create yearly updates xD
]DG[1awy: Will there be an anticheat support?
anticheat is veryyyyyyy important for us, because of the worldwide ranking and the ladder system. that’s why a dedicated team is working on it. we are currently thinking about integrating punkbuster
eXptwist: how extensive will be the management part of the game and out of it the effects during the matches?
management is one of the two keys for victory. (the first one is to be skilled )
so, when you manage your team, there’s a lot of different possibilities according to the game match :
one of these is to compose your team with man / woman or droids. As they all have their own different skills in terms of gameplay or in terms of AI. The other point is to upgrade your team members when you play a championship. If you do not, you won’t be able to reach the best leagues. If you have enought money, you have the possibility to buy ace players.
when you play online, you compose your team with man, woman or droids, and you have the possibility to buy new team members who are not “really better” but who have stretched skills :
for example, you can compose your team with a veryyyy powerful man, but this guy will have a very sloooowww speed.
by the system of man, woman and droids, you can also compose a team as in a RTS : for example you can create a mass female team, which will be very very speed but not very resistant.
strategy will be very important in this new version.
Speedballer17: how many stadiums will sb2 have?
there will be 4 different arenas in the retail version, autopatcher will allow us to add new arenas when we want.
it is very important for us to add new content as frequently as possible.
Speedballer : Is their plans for prize based competitions run by the developer or will this be left to external sites/groups like clanbase etc.. ?
We will work with different leagues like the ESL, Clanbase and smaller national ones. But the main league you will find on the Speedball 2 Gamecenter.
Speedballer17: when you run the tests, what hardware did you had for making that?
we test the game from (the lowest) a 1.7 gHz, 512 Mo, and ATI 9700 PRO, up to (the best one) intel core2 duo 2.8, 2 go RAM, and NVIDIA 8800 GTX. we’re surprised to see that even on the lowest ones, it’s easy to play. even if we’ve not finished optimization yet.
eXptwist: as an old-school-player since 1991, how “classic” can i adjust the gameplay for me in singleplayer?
the classic mode is so close to original speedball2 that you will recover the same feeling, but trust us, advanced mode is soooo cooooll and so nervous, that everybody who has tested, play it. you can switch between classic and advanced mode when you want during the game !
Hummel-Honig: When did u start developing speedball2 and whose idea was it to develope a remake of the classic game and why?
we want to thanks frederic bichat from Frogster, who had this idea of developing speedball2. We’ve begun thinking about this remix last summer. But the development has begun last November. Development has been very short, but we’ve composed a team of excellent professionals, and we’re very happy about the current results. And we hope people who play the beta soon, will appreciate the game as much as us.
Grumbledock: What options in games can we customise, like time limits for example?
all the options you will find in the sports games will be available in speedball2. Meanwhile, we have decided to add new options, as the possibility to disable the bonus arenas for people who want a pure gameplay game.
Grumbledock: going back to the playing online, is wasn’t clear if there will be a proper league where we can buy improvements/upgrades to our players like in the original, can you elaborate on the “buying new team members who are not “really better” but who have stretched skills”?
so : we will explain how is currently set the multiplayer mode : there will be a wordwide ranking for the wordwide players, there will be also a system of ladders
we don’t want to see a player winning because its team members would be better than those of another player
for example : if you play Quake, it would be a shame if a player would spawn with more life than all the others.
we want to see victories thanks to players skills (how they play) and strategies (how they compose their teams), we don’t want victories because of ‘best team members skills’
that’s why, when you compose your team, you have the possibility to buy players with stretched skills.
stretched skills means that when one of the 6 different skills of the characters will be higher than the default ones, but one of the other will be lower than the default one too.
for example : if you want you can integrate in your team a goal keeper which is very resistant. because you will loose the game for sure, if you loose your goal keeper because of injuries.
with this system, the average of all character’s skills are the same, and so every players are equal.
when enough players will play speedball2 online, we will integrate a league system where players will have the possibility to upgrade their own team members, or to buy best players.
because the different leagues won’t be equal, you’ll jump in a better league or drop in a lower one.
Speedballer17: Will there be a hall of fame? Like a museum where you see all the trophies you wan in the game?
when you play the championship or single player tournaments, there is not really an end.
so you can win the championship and new trophees every championship season.
in your team management mode, you will see the trophee you’ve won
Grumbledook: what are the different player stats and how do they affect their perfomance, are bitmap shades still in?
we’ve modified the system of the original speedball2 : Now there are 12 different skills : 6 in terms of gameplay, and 6 other in terms of AI.
Male, female, droids are specialized in 4 of them, and very bad in 4 other. They are complementary.
In terms of Bitmap Shades, be sure that ALL the content of speedball2 will be still present
cromix: Will you release an SDK for the mod community?
we cannot answer yet to this question
first of all, because this depends on the demands of community. then, it will depend on Frogster and Bitmap brothers opinion: some of them prefer keeping control on speedball2 content ( don’t forget it is a licence)
but what we can currently say is that it will be possible to create MODs for the game.
and the DAILY NEWS :
KYLOTONN IS ALREADY WORKING ON A SPECIAL MOD FOR SPEEDBALL2!
Hummel-Honig: What are your plans for the gc germany this year, maybe some kind of big Speedball 2 tournament?
On the Games Convention isnt the right place to have a tournament where only a few have the chance to play. We want to show the game as much people as possible! Hall 4 booth A02 – everybody is welcome
Help2Go: hi kylotonn, what about a first-person perspective?
this decision doesn’t belong to kylotonn only : bitmap brothers really care about the fidelity towards the former game.
As MODs will be possible in Speedball2, there’s no technical problem doing such a thing, if community really wants it
I think that to formally finish this off, I would like to thank you all to submit questions and the Kylotonn Team for taking the time to answer. I hope we will see us at the Games Convention 2007 hall 4 booth A02. Thanks for coming!
Thank you everybody. We’re waiting the feedbacks of the beta, of the game convention event. Don’t hesitate to give your opinion on the forum, we read it carefully.
bye bye merci pour la video thefab

speedball2 (en 3d) sort demain (mercredi 17 octobre) sur le xbox live de la xbox 360
a+ jbam
Non…

Only Amiga makes it possible !
